Feria de Málaga

Málaga · Andalusia · Spain

Málaga's feria splits the day in two. The feria de día runs in the historic centre from midday: the streets around Calle Larios full of people drinking cartojal, a sweet pink wine, with flamenco and verdiales — a raw, ancient fiddle-and-tambourine music from the hills above the city — played in the squares. In the evening everyone moves to the Real, the fairground out of town, where the casetas, almost all of them public, run until dawn.

It commemorates the city's capture by the Catholic Monarchs in 1487.

No attendance figure is recorded here in this pass.

The nine days begin around the Saturday nearest 15 August, in the hottest and most crowded week on the Costa del Sol. The centre is free and reachable; the Real needs a bus or taxi and runs all night.

PlanningNine days in mid-August, starting the Saturday nearest 15 August.
