FITUR at IFEMA is among the largest tourism fairs anywhere and is specifically the meeting point for Spain, Latin America and the Spanish-speaking trade. Every Spanish autonomous community takes a pavilion, as do well over a hundred countries, and the week is when national tourist boards announce their year's positioning.
IFEMA publishes visitor, exhibitor and country figures per edition; we have not collected a dated set here.
The fair is trade-only for its first days and opens to the public at the end, which is when the regional pavilions give away food and the halls become genuinely crowded.
Its late-January slot opens the European tourism-fair season ahead of ITB Berlin, and Madrid's hotel rates for the week reflect a city hosting several tens of thousands of visiting professionals.
