The Tremola is the old Gotthard pass road on the Ticino side: cobbled, with 24 hairpins, a national monument and one of the most spectacular stretches of road in Europe. A historic hillclimb is run on the Uri approach to the pass, with cars from the 1920s onward, in a format descended from the pre-war Swiss hillclimb tradition that the country's 1955 ban on circuit racing left as the only motorsport permitted.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
The timing is governed by the pass: the Gotthard road is closed by snow for much of the year, and the event sits in the short window when it is reliably open and the summer traffic has thinned.
Andermatt is on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and has been substantially rebuilt as a resort over the last decade.
PlanningA late-summer window — not June. The pass road must be open, which rules out most of the year.
