Spello's infiorata differs from Noto's in purpose: these carpets are made to be walked on. Through the night before Corpus Christi, some two thousand infioratori lay around a kilometre and a half of pictures in flower petals along the streets of the hill town, working to designs prepared over months and using only plant material, sorted and stored for weeks beforehand.
In the morning the bishop carries the Blessed Sacrament over them in procession, which destroys the work.
No attendance figure is published.
Corpus Christi falls sixty days after Easter, so the date moves between late May and late June. The thing most visitors get wrong is the hour: the carpets are at their best between about three and seven in the morning, finished and not yet trodden, and the town is awake and working all night.
PlanningEaster-linked — Corpus Christi, sixty days after Easter — and made in a single night.
