Gala Guía MICHELIN España & Portugal
Rotating host city · Rotating · Spain
The Michelin guide for Spain and Portugal is presented at a gala in November at which the year's stars are announced live to a room full of the chefs concerned. Since 2010 the host city has rotated and is bid for by regional governments, which treat it as a tourism investment — the gala brings the entire Iberian gastronomic press to one place for a night.
No attendance figure applies; this is an accredited industry event.
Its consequence for a reference work is the ripple: a new three-star restaurant becomes unbookable for a year within hours of the announcement, and the host city's own restaurants see a measurable lift.
The rotation is the planning fact. The city is announced well in advance, and the surrounding programme of pop-ups and dinners is usually open to the public even when the gala is not.
PlanningA single November evening; the host city rotates and bids for it, so the location changes annually.
