Les Nuits de Fourvière

Lyon · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes · France

The two Roman theatres cut into the Fourvière hill, above the old town, host around sixty evenings between June and late July: opera one night, a rock headliner the next, then dance, circus or a new theatre production. The deliberate refusal to specialise is the festival's identity, and the audience is correspondingly mixed.

The organiser estimated around 168,000 spectators across the 2026 season.

The site is an archaeological monument and the seating is partly original stone, which visitors underestimate; cushions are sold and are not optional for a three-hour programme.

Because this is a season rather than a festival weekend, the planning unit is the individual evening. The funicular from Vieux Lyon runs late on performance nights, and the walk down the hill afterwards through the Renaissance quarter is the better option in July.

PlanningA long window from June to late July — a season of separate evenings, so book by date.
