For three weeks each autumn Odori Park — the same strip that carries the snow sculptures in February — is given over to Hokkaido's food: each block taken by a region or a theme, with corn, potatoes, crab, scallops, lamb, melon, cheese, sake and a ramen block where towns from across the island compete.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
Hokkaido produces a large share of Japan's dairy, potatoes, corn, wheat, seafood and beef, and this is the one event at which the whole of it is in one place.
September in Sapporo is the best month there: the humidity has gone, the harvest is in, and the city is between its two tourist peaks of summer hiking and winter snow.
PlanningA September–October window in the same park the snow festival uses in February.
