Founded by the violinist Tibor Varga in 1964, the Sion Festival programmes orchestral and chamber concerts in the churches and castle venues of the Valais capital, with a violin academy and an international competition that have trained a long list of players.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
The months are August and early September. MOLT's Swiss calendar files it in June, which — as with Sion sous les Étoiles, filed in April — looks like a programme-announcement date rather than the event.
The Valais in late summer is in its best condition: the vineyards above Sion are at harvest, the two castle hills are walkable in the evening, and the valley has far more accommodation than the festival needs.
