Sonorama Ribera

Aranda de Duero · Castile and León · Spain

Sonorama is the festival of Spanish-language indie and pop — the domestic scene rather than the international circuit — held in Aranda de Duero, a Ribera del Duero wine town of 32,000. Its distinguishing feature is the daytime programme in the bodegas: the medieval cellars tunnelled under the old town, where small acoustic sets are played at cellar temperature while the plateau bakes above.

No attendance figure is recorded here in this pass.

The five days fall in mid-August. The town is small and the festival roughly doubles it; camping is organised and Burgos or Valladolid, each under an hour, are the alternatives.

For anyone interested in the wine rather than the music, the same cellars run tastings year-round and the appellation's major estates are within twenty minutes.

PlanningA mid-August window; the town's medieval wine cellars host daytime sets, which is its signature.
