Vendemmia — Cantine Aperte in Vendemmia

Cantine Aperte in Vendemmia

Nationwide · Italy

The autumn counterpart to the May open-cellar day, and a different proposition: estates open while the harvest is actually running, so visitors see picking, sorting and pressing, and taste the must. Many run picking sessions for guests.

No national attendance figure is published.

The planning point is that this is not a date but a gradient. The vendemmia begins in Sicily and Puglia in August, reaches Tuscany and Piedmont in September, and finishes with the late-ripening northern reds and the dried-grape wines of the Veneto in October. An estate's open day follows its own picking, which is set by the weather.

It is frequently confused in listings with the May Cantine Aperte, which is a single anchored Sunday and a quite different experience.

PlanningA seasonal window that follows the grapes: earlier in the south, into October in the north.
