Verbier is a Valais ski resort that for seventeen days each summer holds one of the densest concentrations of major soloists anywhere — the format is chamber music in unlikely combinations, with artists who would not otherwise share a stage. Attached to it is an academy and the Verbier Festival Orchestra, drawn from young players worldwide, which has launched a long list of careers.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
The main venue is a tent, the Salle des Combins, holding around 1,700 at 1,500 metres.
The altitude is a real factor for singers and wind players and is discussed openly by the artists. For audiences it means cold evenings in July, and a cable-car ride from Le Châble for anyone not staying in the resort.
PlanningA July–August window, not August alone; the academy and the festival run together.
