Carhaix has about 7,000 inhabitants and the festival brings in ten times that number each day to the Kerampuilh site outside town. It began in 1992 as a student joke — a parody village fête — and became the biggest music festival in France, programming international headliners alongside a Breton contingent that has never been dropped.
It is still run largely by volunteers, several thousand of them, drawn from the surrounding communes, and the association's profits fund local projects. That structure is unusual at this scale and is defended fiercely.
The organiser estimated around 280,000 spectators across the 2026 edition.
Tickets go on sale in winter and sell out within a day, frequently before the line-up is complete. Central Brittany has almost no hotel stock; the festival campsite and gîtes booked a year ahead are the realistic options, with Quimper an hour away.
PlanningSeasonal window in mid-July; tickets sell out in a day, usually before the full bill is known.
