For one week in January, Davos — a ski resort at 1,560 metres with about 11,000 inhabitants — becomes the most heavily policed square kilometre in Switzerland. Several thousand accredited participants, among them heads of state and the chief executives of most of the world's largest companies, attend sessions in the Congress Centre, while the Promenade's shops are let to corporations as temporary pavilions.
The Forum publishes participant counts per edition; we have not collected a dated one.
It is not a festival and we file it because MOLT does, in the same category as a trade fair: an event that takes a town over completely.
The practical fact for anyone else is that Davos and Klosters are effectively unavailable that week, at any price, and the rail line runs under security control.
PlanningA January window announced a year ahead; the town is closed to anyone without a badge or a booking made long before.
