The Bienal is where flamenco's reputations are made and contested: a month of recitals, new work and commissions across Seville's theatres and courtyards, with the whole profession — singers, dancers, guitarists, critics — in the city at once. Flamenco itself was inscribed by UNESCO in 2010.
No attendance figure is recorded here in this pass.
The critical planning fact is the cycle: the Bienal runs in even years only. A visitor who finds it on a September calendar and travels in an odd year will find nothing, and this is among the most commonly mis-listed events in Spain.
In the intervening years Seville's tablaos and peñas operate as always, and Jerez's Festival de Flamenco in February and Córdoba's Guitar Festival in July are the alternatives.
PlanningBiennial, even years only. In an odd year there is no Bienal, and listings often miss this.
