Festival International de Films de Fribourg

FIFF

Fribourg · Switzerland

FIFF was founded in 1980 to show films from Africa, Asia and Latin America to Swiss audiences, at a time when almost nothing from those cinemas reached European screens outside Paris. It has kept that mandate while the rest of the circuit has broadened, which is why its competition still surfaces first features that the larger festivals pick up a year later.

No attendance figure is collected in this pass.

Fribourg is on the language border — French and German both official, the Sarine river dividing them — and the festival subtitles in both, which is a small logistical feat repeated for every screening.

Late March puts it before Cannes and after Berlin, in a gap where acquisitions are still possible.
