Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián

San Sebastián is the only Spanish festival in the top international category and awards the Concha de Oro. Its programme mixes international competition with a strong Latin American and Spanish selection, and its industry section has become the autumn meeting point for Spanish-language film finance.

The festival publishes attendance per edition; we have not collected a dated one here.

Unlike Cannes, a substantial part of the programme is sold to the public — the city queues for tickets, which go on sale in advance and disappear — and the festival's relationship with its residents is unusually warm for an event of this profile.

The late-September dates close the Basque season. Accommodation in Donostia for that week is the most expensive of the year, and the French border towns are twenty minutes away.
