Hatta is an exclave of Dubai in the Hajar mountains on the Omani border, and its honey festival brings beekeepers from across the UAE and Oman with sidr, samar and acacia honeys — sidr, from the jujube tree, commands prices comparable with the most expensive foods in the world.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
The festival sits inside Dubai's deliberate development of Hatta as a mountain destination: a dam with kayaking, mountain bike trails, a heritage village and chalets, intended to give the emirate an interior counterpart to its coast.
December is the month both because the honey is harvested in autumn and because the mountains are comfortable then. Hatta is around ninety minutes from Dubai by road, and the route crosses and re-crosses the Omani border zone.
