Les Nuits Sonores

Nuits Sonores

Lyon · Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes · France

Nuits Sonores takes over a different piece of disused Lyon each year — a former sugar warehouse, a marshalling yard, the vaults under a hill — and programmes it through the night, with a daytime strand spread across courtyards, rooftops and museums in the city centre. The curation is serious rather than populist: it has a long record of booking artists a season or two before they become expensive.

Attached to it is European Lab, a conference on cultural policy and independent media, which gives the festival an institutional seriousness most electronic events do not attempt.

The organiser reported 98,000 visitors in 2026 across the night and day programmes combined.

It is scheduled around Ascension, which is forty days after Easter, so the dates move year to year within May. The night venues change annually and are announced a few months ahead; they are rarely walkable from the centre, and the shuttle and métro timings are the thing to check before booking a hotel.

PlanningScheduled around the Ascension holiday, so it shifts with the Easter calendar.
