Madrid honours its patron on 15 May with a week or more of free concerts in the squares, a picnic on the Pradera de San Isidro where madrileños dress as chulapos and chulapas and dance the chotis, and a great deal of rosquillas and limonada.
Running alongside it, and for many the real event, is the San Isidro feria at Las Ventas: the most important month in the bullfighting calendar, with daily corridas through May and a critical audience that decides reputations.

The feast day is fixed at 15 May, and the municipal programme is free. The bullfighting is ticketed, sells out for the major cards, and is — as elsewhere in Spain — contested; the street festival is entirely separable from it.
