Les Trois Glorieuses

Beaune · Bourgogne-Franche-Comté · France

The Trois Glorieuses are the three days that frame the Hospices de Beaune auction and constitute the Burgundy year's formal climax. Saturday is the chapter dinner of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin in the cellars of the Château du Clos de Vougeot, with six hundred guests, robed officers and drinking songs. Sunday is the auction. Monday is the Paulée de Meursault, a growers' lunch at which each guest brings bottles from their own cellar to share with the table.

The Confrérie was founded in 1934 to sell Burgundy during the slump, and the weekend is, beneath the ceremony, a trade event.

No attendance figure is published, and none of the three days is simply open to the public: the dinner and the Paulée are by invitation or expensive subscription, the auction is restricted.

For visitors the accessible part is the town itself, which runs tastings and a market around the sale.

PlanningAnchored to the third weekend of November; the Hospices sale is its Sunday centrepiece.
