Design Festa takes no curatorial position: any artist who pays for a booth may exhibit, and around twelve thousand do, across two halls of Tokyo Big Sight — illustration, craft, performance, fashion, sculpture and a quantity of work that defies category.
The consequence is a quality range from professional to first-attempt, which is the stated point: the founders set out to make a space with no gatekeeping in a country whose art world has a great deal of it.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
It runs twice a year, in May and November. The partner calendar lists the spring edition only.
