Rossini Opera Festival

Pesaro · Marche · Italy

Pesaro is Rossini's birthplace and holds his archive, and the festival exists to perform his operas from the critical editions prepared there — including the long stretch of serious works that vanished from the repertoire after his lifetime and were effectively rediscovered by this festival since 1980.

It is a specialist event with international authority: singers' reputations in the bel canto repertoire are made at Pesaro.

No attendance figure is recorded here in this pass.

The season is short, in August, and each production plays only a few nights, so the planning unit is the single performance. The Adriatic coast around Pesaro is in full beach season at that point, which makes accommodation both available and expensive, and the festival audience is a small, international and largely returning one.

PlanningAugust, not July — a short season of a few productions, each playing only a handful of nights.
