The Dubai Marathon is run along the coast on a course so flat and so cool at that hour that it has repeatedly produced world-leading times and extraordinary debuts — for years it carried one of the largest prize purses in road running and attracted a deep Ethiopian and Kenyan field as a result.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
It is a January race, held early in the morning when the temperature is bearable, which is the only month in which a marathon in this climate is reasonable at all.
For anyone in Dubai that morning and not running, the consequence is the closure: Jumeirah Beach Road and the coastal arteries are shut from before dawn until the middle of the day, and crossing the course on foot is controlled.
PlanningA January Sunday; the course is closed from early morning and the coastal road is shut for hours.
