Dubai Summer Surprises was created in 1998 on the same logic as the Shopping Festival and for the opposite season: discounting, raffles, mall entertainment and a children's programme across ten weeks of summer, when daytime temperatures run above forty-five degrees and humidity on the coast makes the outdoors genuinely hazardous.
Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment publishes figures per edition; we have not collected a dated one.
Its audience is substantially regional — Gulf families escaping worse heat inland, and residents who have not travelled.
For a visitor the honest summary is that this is a retail season rather than a festival, and the reason to be in Dubai in August is a hotel rate roughly a third of January's, with the understanding that everything happens under a roof.
PlanningA ten-week window across the worst of the heat; everything is indoors by design.

Computed from the recurrence rule we record for this entry, not copied from a listing. A date marked ~ comes from a calendar conversion and the observance may fall a day or two either side.
