HIGHLANDER is a multi-day hiking format run on Jebel Jais, at 1,934 metres the highest point in the UAE, in the Hajar range above Ras Al Khaimah: participants walk a long route over two or three days, carrying or caching their own kit, and camp on the mountain.
No attendance figure is collected in this pass.
The mountain is otherwise known for a road engineered to switchback up it and for the longest zip line in the world.
November is the start of the walking season; by April the Hajar is unsafe for this kind of distance. That seasonal window is the same one the Fujairah adventure festival uses on the other side of the range, and it is the only part of the UAE calendar governed by terrain rather than by air conditioning.
PlanningA November window on Jebel Jais; the season for mountain walking here is roughly November to March.
