The Cinéscénie is performed on an open field of some twenty-three hectares in front of a ruined château in the Vendée, with a seated audience of around 14,000 and a cast of roughly 2,400 volunteers drawn from the surrounding villages, many of them from families that have performed for three generations. It tells the history of the Vendée through one fictional family, using horses, fountains, pyrotechnics and projection onto the château walls.
It began in 1978 as a local initiative and funded the creation of the Puy du Fou historical park, which is now among the most visited attractions in France and is a separate ticket.
No attendance figure specific to the Cinéscénie is published by us here; the park publishes a combined annual total that cannot be attributed to the night show.
Performances run on selected evenings only, mostly Fridays and Saturdays from June to September, and sell out months ahead.
