Spengler Cup

Davos · Graubünden · Switzerland

Founded in 1923 by Carl Spengler as a gesture of post-war reconciliation — German teams invited back to international play — the Spengler Cup is the oldest invitational ice-hockey tournament in the world. HC Davos hosts, Team Canada has been a fixture since 1984, and the tournament is broadcast across the hockey world over the Christmas week.

HC Davos publishes attendance per edition; we have not collected a dated one.

The dates are fixed at 26–31 December and do not move.

It gives Davos two complete takeovers a year, a month apart: the hockey at New Year and the World Economic Forum in January. For a town of 11,000 that is an unusual annual rhythm, and its accommodation is priced on both.

PlanningFixed on 26–31 December every year — the Christmas week in Davos belongs to it.
